Robert Anthony Plant CBE, born on August 20, 1948, is an English singer-songwriter. He is best known for being the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band Led Zeppelin from its inception in 1968 until 1980. After leaving the band, he enjoyed a successful solo career and collaborated with other artists such as Alison Krauss. Plant is widely regarded as one of the greatest singers in rock music history, known for his flamboyant persona and captivating stage performances. In 1995, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Led Zeppelin.
During his time with Led Zeppelin, Plant established himself as a charismatic frontman and was often compared to other rock icons such as Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey, Jim Morrison, and Freddie Mercury. Following the band's dissolution in 1980, Plant continued to perform and record music in various solo and group projects. One of his most notable post-Led Zeppelin projects was The Honeydrippers, which included former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. In 1988, he released his solo album "Now and Zen", which produced hit songs like "Tall Cool One" and "Ship of Fools".
In the 1990s, Plant reunited with Jimmy Page for a project called "Page and Plant", which resulted in two studio albums and a live album from an MTV Unplugged performance. The duo won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1998 for their song "Most High". In 2007, Plant collaborated with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss on the album "Raising Sand", which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2009. The album also produced the hit song "Please Read the Letter", which won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year the same year.
Plant's achievements have been recognized by various music publications. In 2008, Rolling Stone editors ranked him as the 15th greatest singer of all time, while in 2011, Rolling Stone readers voted him as the greatest lead singer of all time. Hit Parader magazine named him the "Greatest Metal Vocalist of All Time" in 2006, and in 2009, he was voted "the greatest voice in rock" in a poll conducted by UK classic rock radio station Planet Rock. In 2023, Billboard ranked him as the fourth greatest rock lead singer of all time.
